Each year, for the past 6 years, I do a pet calendar fundraiser contest benefiting a local animal rescue group. Pets from all around the area enter the contest and we have so much fun voting for the winner. This year, a special girl won the cover. It was a very competitive contest and the moms really get into campaigning hard for their pet. Bella won the 2018 calendar cover. I photographed her a few weeks ago for the calendar. She is a sweet giant. Her story is so special and I am honor to share it and feature her on the cover of the calendar and inside. She has brought so much love to her mom and everyone she has come into her life. I am sure she will bring joy to you too when you look at her cover photo in the 2018 Pet Calendar.

Bella is an 8 year old Bullmastiff. She was born on March 17, 2009. She is a native of Rowlett, Texas. From puppyhood her Momma Lia taught her to sit, shake hands, and have manners. They took walks around the neighborhood and made many friends. On the very sad day of April 18, 2016, Bella's Momma passed away in her sleep. Bella was unsure of her future. One of her Momma's best friends Michelle had just lost her 15 year old Cocker Spaniel Mac and she and her family were having a hard time moving on. Especially their little 12 year old Chihuahua Tanner. It was an ongoing joke that if something ever happened to Bella's Momma that Michelle would take care of her. It came to be that exactly three months after losing Mac that Michelle brought Bella into their home. After allowing their "old man" Tanner to spend the day with Bella.....well, she never left! They got along great! 7 pounds and 130 pounds of love and acceptance. She has been a blessing to them. She needed them when they needed her. She still resides in Rowlett. She still walks the block daily in her new neighborhood and has made many new friends....two legged and four legged. She meant the world to her Momma and she means the world to her new family. She was given the month of October in honor of her Momma Lia's birthday. She is truly a precious girl.

Thank you to our newest Platinum Sponsor for our 2018 Pet Calendar Fundraiser Contest. We appreciate your support to make the calendar fundraiser a reality. Sir Top'Em Hat Roofing & Construction is a locally based roofing company owned by Castle Hills resident Lenon Williams. Lenon has been a friend for a few years and he is a wonderful and honest person. We recently had our roof done with his company and it was a seamless wonderful experience. We went with Lenon's company because he does a lot of roofs in our Castle Hills community. Our roof looks amazing with his signature black roof. Sir Top'Em Hat Roofing & Construction is an honest and reliable roofing company. Lenon will make sure everything is done right because he cares about quality and also cares about his clients. I love animals, in particular dogs. I have 6 of them, 5 are adopted including one from Kauai when I went on vacation last summer. So it is natural that my heart is to give back to the animal rescue community. For the past 6 years, I have been doing the pet calendar fundraiser contest. Each year I select a small rescue group that I support from the sale of the calendars. I like small rescue groups that are not funded but are just supported through volunteers. I feel that these small groups don't get the attention or help they need for all the wonderful work that they do. Over the past 5 years, I have donated approximately $10,000. For me, it's a labor of love. It takes months to plan, execute and market a calendar fundraiser project. I have to go out into the community and ask for businesses to sponsor and engage the community to enter their pets. Photograph the pets that win, design the calendar, print the calendar, market the calendar, sell the calendar and deliver the calendar. It's truly a labor of love. To help us make the printing of the calendar possible, we have some wonderful giving sponsors. I hope you will use their services because I use them also and they are wonderful businesses who also give back to the community.

Our Platinum sponsor for the past 3 years is Dr. Krieger with Krieger Orthodontics and Smile Design located at the Castle Hills Village Shops in Lewisville. Dr. Krieger is a wonderful friend and is the most giving individual. He is always open to giving and I so appreciate him as a friend and a wonderful business member in the Castle Hills community. My daughter Ariel had her braces done with Dr. Krieger and we are estatic how they turned out. I highly recommend anyone who need braces to go to Krieger Orthodontics and Smile Design. You will get the best service from the staff and of course Dr. Krieger himself. Thank you Dr. Krieger for your support and sponsorship.

Our long time sponsor is Dr. Calhoun with North Carrollton Veterinary Hospital in Carrollton. He has been a sponsor for the past 5 years. Dr. Calhoun is a wonderful caring vet. When our dog Susie of 15 years lost her mobility and was suffering, we had to make the hardest decision of our life to let her go. Dr. Calhoun was there for us in a very loving and caring way. His office staff is professional and caring. I highly Dr. Calhoun with North Carrollton Veterinary Hospital if you want the best care for your animals. Thank you Dr. Calhoun for your support and sponsorship.

A wonderful business right across my studio is American Pup Culture. They have been supporting us sponsoring the calendar for the past 3 years. Kim and Mitch are wonderful people who truly love their clients. We take our dogs Sasha, Lexie, and Apollo to APC for grooming and doggy daycare often. They do an awesome job with their grooming and Sasha, our Lab/Husky mix just absolutely loves the doggy daycare time. She knows exactly where the door is to get in and runs to it. If you want the best grooming and doggy daycare experience, APC is the place to take your dogs. Thank you Kim and Mitch for your support and sponsorship.

Enchanted Pet Sitting is a small pet sitting company own by me. I started this company because my dog Susie didn't like going to boarding. It is always better for a dog, especially a dog that is not very social to be in their own environment. The noise of a boarding facility can create a lot of stress. I don't board any of my dogs except for Sasha because she loves to play with other dogs. However, the small chihuahuas get very stressed and I prefer to have them stay home in the comfort of their own home environment. Enchanted Pet Sitting specializes in pet sitting for Castle Hills residents only. I believe it is best to be within a few minutes of the client. Most of my clients are long term and I end up loving the dogs I care for as my own. If you are a Castle Hills resident and need a pet sitter, you can contact me. I only take one pet at a time to devote my attention.

This year's rescue group we are supporting is Chloe's Pet Rescue. It's a small all-volunteer animal rescue organization that specializes in saving furbabies scheduled to be euthanized because shelters lack room and funding. It is named after Chloe, a small disabled chihuahua who has to be in a wheel chair to get around. This doesn't hinder her spunkiness or outlook in life. Her mom, Leslie Englemann is the founder. What I love about the rescue is Leslie rescues all the dogs that are not adoptable. They are often disabled or old but they still deserve a loving life. To adopt any of the rescues, go to this link https://www.chloespetrescue.org/adoptable-dogs

I hope you enter your pet and make a difference. The entry form is at www.kimortiz.com or click here http://kimortiz.com/machform/view.php?id=159 Your entry fee of $50 per dog gets you a complimentary session and if your pet wins, they also get to be photographed and be in the calendar.

What is more precious and valuable than an heirloom painted portrait of your family that you can treasure and pass down for generations? In this day of instant gratification and iPhone snapshots, having printed portraits of your family to decorate your home is something of a lost art; however, I believe that there is nothing more valuable than capturing your family at a point in time and having it painted to beautifully decorate your walls. A portrait of your family is something that cannot be recreated. It's  a moment in time, something that your children and grand children will forever cherish. Having grown up poor, I never had the opportunity to have photos done. I don't remember what I look like before 10 years olds. Our newest studio offering is a mixed media painted portrait. After we photograph your family, we have the portrait digitally painted with individual hand strokes for beautiful details and then printed on canvas. The canvas is now ready for our artist to hand paint acrylic and oil painting overlays to create a one of a kind art piece that you and your children will enjoy for generations. Let us create an art piece of your family, pet or High School senior for you to decorate your home to enjoy.

A few weeks ago I did a senior session for my 2018 senior model Cameron Olle from Lake Travis High School. Cameron is a varsity Cheerleader from Lake Travis HS and has been doing competitive cheer for many years. She is extremely outgoing. As my first high school senior from the Lakeway area, I scouted some unique locations for her session. It's interesting how a simple business office building can turn into a great background. I love being able to offer senior photos in the Lakeway/Lake Travis area in addition to the Dallas area. The Lake Travis area has so much natural beauty being surrounded by the beautiful lake. There are 3 major high schools with Lake Travis High School being one of the largest. Their football team won state in 2016 and I am looking forward to attending some of the home games this fall and photographing more area high school seniors.
